REVIEW FROM A FIRST TIME RALLIER

We attended our first rally with the Shropshire Centre for Halloween at Forton Cricket Club. My partner, myself, two teenage daughters (19 & 13 years) and the dog, attended.                                                                           We decided to try the rally scene out after spending the previous weekend on a CL for the first time. We did not know what to expext.                                                                                                                                          The intial phone call withthe marshals to find out the arrangements for the weekend put my mind at rest, they were really nice and told me shouild I need any more help or information not to be frightend to contact them.   When we arrived at the site to pitch the van the van we were met by the marshal who helped us to position the caravan and showed me where to fetch the fresh water from and also went through the outline of the weekend for us.                                                                                                                                                                            The programme involved a get-together on the Friday evening bring your own mug we were told (tea and coffee were supplied) and there would be a game or two going on as well 7pm arrived and over to the club-house we all went with our mugs in hand not really knowing what to expect. As usual we were the last to get there (this happens when you have 3 females in your party). The room was not full of unfriendly faces but quite the opposite there were only eighteen peoiple in the room all happy and smiling. We were welcomed warmly and after a few minutes of chat and coffee we sat down to join in with  game of bingo, This was fun even more so when the eldest daughter called house on the last two games (this would not be the only  time lady luck would favour us) . Another drink then back to the van.                                                                                                                    Saturday was spent relaxing in the van and generally taking it easy we also chatted to some of the others on the field. The evening well what can we say- great fun was had  by all( you  could see it even through the green makeup-honest!) we all got together in fancy dress in the club for our fish supper..... Had some more (wins) fun games, quizzes(won some games) and generally had a good time with other like-minded people- who now wish to have nothing to do with us as we wiped out almost all the prize funds----sorrrrrrryyyyyy.                                     We were asked if we thought anything could be done differently as numbers were starting to fall on rally attendance; that's hard to answer the format works with the people that were at this rally, we think we fitted in well. The girls did wonder if there were anymore young people that caravan these days, We wonder if it is due to the fact that as parents we have come to rely on play stations and computeres  to keep our youngsters amused. We discussed these issues as a family when we got  home and concluded that an advertising drive of events may well be of benefit (especially if you have members email to send out on electronic mail shot) more items on the website about events, pictures of recent rallies an electronic version of the newsletter available and maybe a contact page.

Would we do it again yes, absolutely, the daughters are really excited about going to more rallies. so watch out we're after your money. (te, he,ha,ha)

Many thanks Jim, Jean, Margaret, and ted for an excellent Halloween Rally. We had a packed weekend with games, quizes, bingo and a fish and chip supper,It was a shame that more members were not there to enjoy and appreciate, your hard work and commitment
